Summer and Coronavirus: What to Know

We spent most of last year's summer indoors praying for better days, while trying to make the most of a lockdown summer. But now that summer is here, what exactly should we expect and how different will it be from last year?

Experts suspect that this summer will see a reduction in cases provided people wear their masks and get vaccinated. In general the outlook for summer is looking pretty bright as far as circumstances go. With eased restriction, more availability in vaccines and small scale social gatherings the potential for a great summer are possible. If you are fully vaccinated you have the luxury of being able to do things that you stopped doing due to the pandemic.

Before planning activities and trips, consider how Covid is spreading in your locality and how many people are participating in the activity.

What to Expect

Most restrictions that were in place last summer have been lifted giving you more freedom to enjoy your summer. Those who are fully vaccinated can expect to experience a version of life that is fairly “normal” without the fear of becoming dangerously ill or dying. Encourage those around you to get vaccinated as well so that all parties involved are safe.

According to the CDC Coronairus infections could be driven to low levels if the vast majority of the people get vaccinated and continue with the necessary precautions. The expectation is that coronavirus cases will plummet in the summer but may rebound in the fall.

Plan A Getaway

Certain countries, particularly in Asia, have seen a dangerous rise in COVID-19 cases, hence why travelling would still not be recommended. However you can still plan a quiet getaway by renting homes in popular destinations within the United States. Domestic destinations and trips are all in this summer, even most Caribbean islands such as Turks and Caicos, Aruba and the Bahamas have reopened to international tourists.

Rental properties reservations this year are 40% higher than it was pre-Covid making it one of the most popular modes of vacation now. Private rental homes are in high demand so book early so you don't miss out on the opportunity. For international excursions it is smart to select destinations that have good health care and stable pandemic protocols in place.

Outdoor visits and activities are safer than indoor activities especially if more people are involved. There are many scenic parks and locations scattered all over the US making it easy and ideal to plan a quick trip with your loved ones while staying safe. Rent out cabins and campsites for a week with your family. For example, ski resorts would have stunning river valleys with opportunities for kayaking and rafting. You should also make sure you've got your travel insurance in check. This is because most countries now require you to have insurance which is beneficial if you do get sick on holiday.

Get Vaccinated

If you're not planning a getaway there are still regular activities to do like going on walks and cycling outdoors. If you're in the presence of people who are unvaccinated their best option would be to attend events which are outdoors while wearing a mask. For unvaccinated people you must wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart at all times. Overall the most crucial difference between those who are vaccinated and those who aren't, are the safety and luxury they have access to due to the built up immunity.

This summer has potential to be exciting and almost normal as long as you take precautions. It is also good to be aware that coronavirus variants are likely to keep appearing and its Covid cases won't be dropping down to an all time zero. The new transmissible variants are more resistant to vaccines. However, with restrictions being eased and more people being vaccinated you will be able to make the most of your summer as you will be more prepared
